Google Meet
Google Meet is Google's video meeting service, designed to be simple to start and join from a browser.
What it is
Meet is part of Google Workspace and can also be used with a personal Google account. People can join a meeting from a link in a web browser without installing anything, and there are apps for iOS and Android. It is closely tied to Google Calendar, Gmail and Google Drive, and Google Chat covers messaging in Workspace.
Strengths
- Simplicity. Starting or joining a meeting takes few steps, and the interface is uncluttered.
- Browser first. Participants rarely need to install anything, which suits guests and occasional users.
- Workspace fit. Scheduling from Google Calendar and sharing files from Drive work smoothly.
- Light on devices. It generally runs well on modest hardware.
Weaknesses
- Narrower scope. Meet is a meeting tool; chat and collaboration live in other Google products.
- Fewer built-in workspace features. There is no direct equivalent of Teams' channel-based workspace inside Meet itself.
- Best inside its own ecosystem. Organisations built on Microsoft tools may find it fits less naturally.
